This 1-7 day cleansing regimen consists of a morning juice and olive oil drink and a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables. It gives the liver a break from processing heavier foods, allowing it a relative rest so that its metabolic functions can be rejuvenated and enhanced. While on the purifying diet you may feel much lighter and more energetic. You may also develop a new way of looking at eating and learn to modify your current eating patterns.
Liver Flush: Mix together in a blender- juice of 1 grapefruit or several oranges, or an apple.
4-6 tbsp of fresh lemon or lime juice. 2-3 tablespoons of cold-pressed virgin or extra virgin olive oil. 1-3 cloves of garlic.
Liver Flush Tea: 1 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1 tsp fennel seeds, 1 tsp peppermint leaves, 1 tsp flax seed, 4 slices of ginger root cut about ¼ inch thick. Boil the ginger root for three minutes in 1 ½ to 2 pints of water, then add the other ingredients and let steep for 10-15 minutes while you prepare the flush.
Drink the liver flush (it's surprisingly tasty). Then drink a cup of the tea. This is your breakfast. Throughout the day drink 2 or 3 more cups of the tea (depending on how much you made.)
An hour or two after your liver flush “breakfast” have some fresh citrus or other fresh fruit (grapes, apples, pears) or some freshly made vegetable juice (mixture of carrot, celery and beet)
Lunch and dinner can be a fruit or vegetable salad, no dressings other than olive oil and lemon juice. Avoid mixing fruits and vegetables at the same meal. Eat leafy greens and other vegetables such as lettuce, carrots, turnips, squash, zucchini, onion, celery, avocado, cabbage, cauliflower, string beans, radishes, cucumbers, beets. Eat them fresh and raw as much as possible, but you can also steam them and make them into soups.
Gourmet fruit salads with apples, pears, grapes, peaches, figs, bananas, raisins, mangoes, papaya, pineapples, berries, melons, etc. (Little tip: Making a big fruit salad and squeezing lime juice over the whole thing is amazing!)
Do this liver flush for at least 2 days but no more than 7.
